The Twelvemile Creek to Noatak Village section of Noatak River is 370 miles long and is a class I(II) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The beauty of the Baird Mountains is a great plus for this river. A stretch
this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so it looks like you will be camping out. This is the only paddling section along Noatak River. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're
willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime at Noatak River comes with high temperatures in the 60's. Summer night lows sink down to the 40's. During the winter highs are in the 10's, and throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Noatak River temperatures sink to the-10's. Noatak River is pretty dehydrated regularly; August is the wettest month with most rain, and February on the other hand is the driest.
