This section of Noatak River in NW Arctic Borough Borough is 370 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I(II) section. The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wild scenery of the Baird Mountains is great. A stretch of this
length does require some preparations, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The beautiful scenery of NW Arctic Borough Borough and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough
to come here and paddle. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Noatak River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Twelvemile Creek to Noatak Village section is the only one.
Briefly about the general area: All through the summer months at Noatak River temperatures are commonly in the 60's, and the nighttime is slightly chillier of course, ordinarily in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 10's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Noatak River dip into the-10's. Not much rain falls here at Noatak River; the month with most of the rain is August, and February is when it's the driest.
