The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The scenic beauty of Valdez-Cordova Borough and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes. This section of Power Creek in Alaska is 1.5 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if
you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you
coming back for more. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There are no other sections to paddle along Power Creek than the Feeding Eyak Lake Close to Cordova section. The river winds through the Chugach Mountains and you get great scenery.
Briefly about the general area: During the warmest time of the year at Power Creek temperatures are mostly in the 60's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 40's. Throughout the winter highs are commonly in the 30's, and winter nights come with
lows in the 10's to Power Creek. Life's too short to enjoy all the fun stuff in the Chugach Mountains. Much rain falls at Power Creek; of all the months in a year September is the one with the most rain; July is when it's the driest. Don't leave Power Creek without first paying a visit to Ohman Falls; if you're here you can take a hike along the Eyak Trail.
