Alaska whitewater - Savage River, Alaska Range, Denali Borough
Denali
county,
Denali Park Road Bridge to Stampede Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS V 16 miles
The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The wild scenery of the Alaska Range is great. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The wonderful Denali Borough scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Savage River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Denali Park Road Bridge to Stampede Road section is the only one. You might be into whitewater rafting
or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with not too many other spots for that. This stretch of Savage River in Denali Borough is 16 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get
to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.
