  The natural beauty of Alaska and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Close to Glacier to Talkeetna River stretch of Sheep River in Alaska is 50 miles long and has been rated as a class IV(V+) section by American Whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but
    you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. When you're paddling down a Talkeetna Mountains river like this one you always get great
scenery along the way too. The Close to Glacier to Talkeetna River stretch is the only paddling stretch along Sheep River. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots.

Summertime brings highs in the 60's to Sheep River, and the overnight is rather colder of course, frequently in the 40's. Through the winter
 
this place gets highs in the 10's, and all through the dark hours in the winter at Sheep River temperatures plunge to the 0's.
The annual rainfall here at Sheep River is about average; through the month of August you get the most rain around here; the driest of the months is May.
