The put-in location is a short drive from Anchorage, as you can see on the road map further down. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The wonderful Alaska scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. Whether you're whitewater     rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Whitewater paddling here in the Talkeetna Mountains is a great experience. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. There's camping available near Sheep Creek. This is the only paddling stretch along Sheep Creek. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. Briefly about the general area: All through the summertime at Sheep Creek temperatures are usually in the 60's, and the overnight is a little chillier of course, typically in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 10's; after the   sun is down during the winter temperatures at Sheep Creek sink into the 0's. The annual rain here at Sheep Creek is about average; the month with most of the rain is August, and January meanwhile is the driest month.
