CLASS IV 4 miles
The Artic Vally Road to bridge stretch of Ship Creek is 4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV section of whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Anchorage, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Alaska is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. This is
a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The wonderful Alaska scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you
might end up sleeping in your car. There are no other sections to paddle along Ship Creek than the Artic Vally Road to bridge section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: Ship Creek is typically a quite dry place; most of the rain falls all through September while April is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Through the summer months, highs generally are in the 60's at Ship Creek. For the period of the moonlight
