  The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The wonderful Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Gravel Bar to Chitina River stretch of Tana River in
    Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough is 36 miles long and is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Now this is a pretty long section, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. The Chugach Mountains
scenery is wonderful. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other places. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are a few other sections  
in this river system that can be paddled as well.

Briefly about the general area:
Through the days of summer here at Tana River, high temperatures frequently get into the 60's while overnight lows are commonly in the 40's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 0's with winter lows in the-20's overnight here at Tana River. It is very dried out here at Tana River typically. July is the month that gets the most rain while April is usually the driest month.
