The beautiful scenery of Near Copper Center Borough and the water flowing gracefully down Tonsina River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then
no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The river winds through the Chugach Mountains and you get great scenery. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Tonsina Glacier to Tonsina Lake stretch is the only paddling stretch along Tonsina River.
Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. The Tonsina Glacier to Tonsina Lake stretch of Tonsina River in Near Copper Center Borough is 41 miles long and is a class V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, perfect for a real wilderness adventure.
