The Richardson Highway crossing to Lower Tonsina stretch of Tonsina River is 7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. This is the only paddling stretch along Tonsina River. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The campgrounds here     at Tonsina River are pretty good. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip.
