  The scenic beauty of Near Copper Center Borough and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The Richardson Highway crossing to Lower Tonsina stretch of Tonsina River is 7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. This is the only paddling stretch along Tonsina River. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The campgrounds here
    at Tonsina River are pretty good. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have
to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip.

Briefly about the general area:
Tonsina River gets very little rain; all through the month of July you get the most rain around here, and April is when it's the driest.
During the long summer days at Tonsina River temperatures are usually in the 60's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's usually in the 40's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 0's, and overnight lows during the winter for Tonsina River tend to be in the-20's.
