  The Upper River to Lowe River stretch of Wortmann's Creek in Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough is 6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The natural beauty of Alaska and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often more challenging than in other states, so don't forget that many of the sections
    here are not safe for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Upper River to Lowe River section is one of a few paddling sections
in this river system. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. When you're paddling down a Chugach Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. On this section you do get some distance, good  
for a one day paddling trip.

Briefly about the general area:
If you would like a little side trip, try Heiden Canyon. All the water falling down from the sky makes Wortmann's Creek a wet site. Most of the rain falls through September, and the driest month is June. Summer brings highs in the 60's to Wortmann's Creek, and throughout the night it cools down to the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's, and throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Wortmann's Creek temperatures fall to the 10's.
