The natural beauty of Greenlee County and the water flowing gracefully down Blue River beats anything. The Blue Crossing to Forest Service Road 475 stretch is the only paddling stretch along Blue River. This section of Blue River in Arizona is 34 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Arizona are often tougher than
in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The beauty of the San Francisco Mountains is a great plus for this river. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so it looks like you will be camping out. A bit
of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: A short tour to Ladron Spring is always worthwhile; Ladrone Canyon is a great place to spend some time. Summertime at Blue River comes with high temperatures in the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. During the winter highs are in the 40's with
temperatures at Blue River dipping down into the 10's all through winter nights. Around Blue River you don’t get a lot of precipitation; August is the wettest month with most rain, and May meanwhile is the driest month. Coming to this river is always a good idea. Going for
a hike on the Stray Horse Canyon Trail Twenty is always a wonderful adventure. Whohoo, so many amusing things in one place! The San Francisco Mountains is so good! Horsehead Spring is a pretty spot to take a look at while you're at Blue River; there is a wonderful hiking trail close by called the Blue River One Hundred One Trail.
