The wonderful Greenlee County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. This stretch of Blue River in Greenlee County is 34 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other places for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these
hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. This is the only paddling section along Blue River. The beautiful San Francisco Mountains scenery is an added bonus. A stretch this long is of course too
much for a one day trip, so better bring your camping gear along. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy.
Briefly about the general area: It's always perfect to explore Horsehead Spring, and close by you locate the Stray Horse Canyon Trail Twenty which is a pleasant hiking trail. And that's not all the things to do here in the San Francisco Mountains. Put some time aside to spend at Ladron Spring
if you're here at Blue River; a good spot to stop at close by is Ladrone Canyon. Blue River is usually a quite arid site; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and the driest of the months is May. Coming to this river is always a good idea. The Blue
River One Hundred One Trail is a good hiking trail near Blue River. For the duration of the summer at Blue River highs are regularly in the 70's. During the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Blue River.
