Arizona whitewater, Colorado River

Coconino Mohave county, Lees Ferry to Lake Mead section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-V     230 miles
The nature scenery of Coconino/ Mohave County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Colorado River in Coconino/ Mohave County is 230 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-V section of whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Flagstaff, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Not too many
hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Colorado River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Lees Ferry to Lake Mead stretch
is the only one. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.
