The wonderful Arizona scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Salt River attract people from near and far. This section of Salt River in Arizona is 7 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. The Highway 60 to Mescal Rapid section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here.
Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The river winds through the Mogollon Rim Mountains and you get great scenery.

At Salt River you don’t see much rain; during August this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is June. Now, you may believe that's a load but there's even more entertaining things to do here in the Mogollon Rim Mountains. You should undeniably pop by Mule Hoof Bend while you're here at Salt River.
