The Highway 60 to Mescal Rapid section of Salt River is 7 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Arizona are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The scenic beauty of Gila County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Briefly about the general area: Mule Hoof Bend is an out of the ordinary site to visit while
at Salt River, and close by Phillips Canyon is a glorious place to go. Yeah, come up here to the Mogollon Rim Mountains for a glorious time. The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Mormon Spring. Through the summer
at Salt River highs are generally in the 90's while overnight lows are frequently in the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 50's with temperatures at Salt River dipping down into the 20's all through winter nights.
