  Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Arizona tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This section of Salt River is 7 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Highway 60 to Mescal Rapid section is one of them. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. For all you camping people
    there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are not so many other good places for that around
here. The natural beauty of Arizona and the cool fresh water beats anything. Whitewater paddling here in the Mogollon Rim Mountains is a great experience. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip.

Briefly about the general area:
Now, you may think that's loads but there's even more exciting stuff to do here in the Mogollon Rim Mountains. Mormon Spring is an inspiring site to visit during your stay. During the warmest time of the year at Salt River highs are generally in the 90's. All through the dark hours
 
of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. During the winter highs are typically in the 50's, and night lows at Salt River throughout the wintertime commonly dip into the 20's.
If you want to check out some interesting stuff, check out Mule Hoof Bend, and Phillips Canyon is also a fine location to look at. Salt River is a location that is rather dehydrated frequently; August is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of the year is June.
