The natural beauty of Maricopa County and the water flowing gracefully down Verde River will make you feel great. The starting location is a short drive from Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Bartlett Reservoir to confluence with Salt River section     is one of them. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There's camping available near Verde River. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: A tremendous location next to Verde River is Malpais Canyon. Through the months of summer at Verde River highs are typically in the 100's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 70's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 60's with temperatures   at Verde River dipping down into the 30's during winter nights. Not much rain falls here at Verde River; most of the rain falls all through December while June is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
