Arizona whitewater - Verde River, Maricopa County Maricopa county, Bartlett Reservoir to confluence with Salt River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     19 miles   Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The nature scenery of Arizona and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. There's camping available near Verde River. The Bartlett Reservoir to confluence     with Salt River section of Verde River in Maricopa County is 19 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. Briefly about the general area: All through the months of summer, highs mostly are in the 100's at Verde River, and the overnight is a little colder of course, commonly in the 70's. Daytime highs throughout   the wintertime are in the 60's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Verde River. Verde River is usually a pretty dried out spot; December is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of the year is June. Malpais Canyon is a brilliant site to look at.
