The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Harrison, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Johnson County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Bear Creek - Big Piney Tributary are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. There are no other stretches to paddle along Bear Creek - Big Piney Tributary than the Headwaters to Big Piney Creek stretch. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Arkansas you might find the
rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The Headwaters to Big Piney Creek stretch of Bear Creek - Big Piney Tributary is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V(V+)
section by American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. When you're paddling down a Boston Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers.

the general area: That right there is a load of fun stuff already but it goes on, the Boston Mountains has it all. Going for a hike on the Grassy Point Trail is always a perfect adventure, and there are brilliant places to look at along the Gunter Trail. The high level
of rainfall makes Bear Creek - Big Piney Tributary a rather wet location; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and the driest of the months is January. During the warm months at Bear Creek - Big Piney Tributary highs are usually in the 90's. Once the sun
is down it dips down to the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Bear Creek - Big Piney Tributary are in the 20's.
