Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Arkansas are easier than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. If you're coming from Searcy it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Boston Mountains scenery is wonderful. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Big Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Low water bridge to Old Iron
Bridge stretch is the only one. There's camping available near Big Creek. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. The beautiful scenery of Cleburne County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This stretch of Big Creek in Cleburne County is 15 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I section.
Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 90's to Big Creek with overnight lows in the 60's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 40's with temperatures at Big Creek
dipping down into the 20's through winter nights. Big Creek is a wet location that gets a great deal of rain; most of the rain falls throughout May, and January is the month with the least moisture.
