The Walnut to Ft. Douglas section of Big Piney Creek in Arkansas is 16 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Harrison, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. When you're paddling down a Boston Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Arkansas is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that rivers
here are less demanding. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. The nature scenery of Newton Johnson County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

There's delightful hiking along the Turkey Trail; hiking is a popular thing to do around Big Piney Creek; Boston Cutoff is a brilliant local trail.
