This section of Big Piney Creek in Arkansas is 8.4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II+(III) section. If you're coming from Russellville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The beautiful scenery of Arkansas and the cool fresh water
make the trip here worthwhile. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Helton's Farm to Long Pool Campground stretch is just one of them. And of course, there are campgrounds
nearby. The beauty of the Boston Mountains is a great plus for this river. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Arkansas tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.

about the general area: Felkins Point is not far from Big Piney Creek at all, and Wainscott Bottom is an out of the ordinary thing to observe while you're here. Throughout the summer months, highs usually are in the 90's at Big Piney Creek. For the duration of the dark hours
of summer temperatures plunge down into the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's; night lows in the 20's for Big Piney Creek. The high level of rain makes Big Piney Creek a pretty wet place; May is when you get the most rain here; January on the other hand is the driest.
Be careful coming to the Boston Mountains, you might not ever wanna go home again. Cedar Hollow is a great place to spend some time at, and Big Piney Creek is right by the Grassy Point Trail. This river is always fun.
