Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Arkansas tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. This is a pretty decent length section,
it's good length for a morning trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. This stretch of Big Piney Creek in Arkansas is 4.4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater
a class II section of whitewater. The river winds through the Boston Mountains and you get great scenery. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Long Pool Campground to Highway 164 section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. If you're coming from Russellville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further
down the page so you won’t get lost. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: Ladd Bluff is a fine place to check out while in the neighborhood, and nearby Jimmy Hollow is a
great spot to go. A river like this is too good to miss. Grimmet Springs is a charming place to stop at while you're at Big Piney Creek. So much entertaining stuff to do in the Boston Mountains, not enough time. Don't leave Big Piney Creek without first checking out Ladd Bluff,
and a short tour to Grimmet Springs is always worthwhile. Big Piney Creek is a wet spot that gets a good deal of rain; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest of the months is January. Summertime at Big Piney Creek arrives with high temperatures in
the 90's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Big Piney Creek are in the 20's.
