Searcy
county,
FS 1219A to Richland Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-IV+ 2.75 miles
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The FS 1219A to Richland Creek stretch of Bobtail Creek in Searcy County is 2.75 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV+ section. The put-in location is a short drive from Harrison, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river
if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you
glad you came. This is the only paddling stretch along Bobtail Creek. The natural beauty of Arkansas and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The beauty of the Boston Mountains is a great plus for this river.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Bobtail Creek typically tend to be in the 80's. Once
the sun is down it plunges down to the 60's. High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Bobtail Creek. The high level of precipitation makes Bobtail Creek a reasonably wet place; May is the wettest month
with most rain; January on the other hand is the driest. Since you're here at Bobtail Creek why not take a look at Short Bobtail Hollow, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Hideout Trail. You'll beyond doubt wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the fun stuff in the Boston Mountains.
