The beautiful scenery of Arkansas and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch of Bobtail Creek in Searcy County is 2.75 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV+ section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Harrison, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page
so you won’t get lost. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Bobtail Creek doesn't have
a lot of paddling sections, the FS 1219A to Richland Creek section is the only one. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. The Boston Mountains scenery is wonderful. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch.
Briefly about the general area: Bobtail Creek gets a lot of water; May is the month that
gets the most rain; the driest month of the year is January. All through the warm months here at Bobtail Creek, high temperatures frequently get into the 80's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. Highs all through the winter are typically in the 40's, and winter
nights come with lows in the 20's to Bobtail Creek. You'll really wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the cool stuff in the Boston Mountains. Short Bobtail Hollow is close to Bobtail Creek and is beyond doubt a pleasant place to pop by, and Bobtail Creek is right by the Hideout Trail.
