This stretch of Boulder Creek is 2.6 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V+ section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Harrison, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of Arkansas and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. You might be
into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Headwaters to Henson Creek section is the only paddling section along Boulder Creek. A bit of
exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Whitewater paddling here in the Boston Mountains is a great experience. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes.
Briefly about the general area: Boulder Creek usually gets much rain; through the month of May you get the most rain around here, and January meanwhile is the driest
month. A delightful place to stop by in close proximity to Boulder Creek is Wildcat Hollow. For the duration of the warmest time of the year here at Boulder Creek, high temperatures generally get into the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's. All through the winter the highs are commonly in the 40's, and night lows at Boulder Creek throughout the wintertime usually sink into the 20's.
