This stretch of Brushy Creek is 6.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II+(III) section. The nature scenery of Polk County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Polk County 408 to Cossatot at Highway 246 section is the only paddling section along Brushy Creek. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. For all you camping people
there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind
that rivers here are less demanding. The wild scenery of the Ouachita Mountains is great. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places.
Briefly about the general area: Brushy Creek is a pretty wet place frequently with a good deal of precipitation; all through the month of May you get the most rain around here; January on the other hand is the driest. All through the warm months at Brushy Creek temperatures are regularly in the 80's while overnight lows are mostly
in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's, and night lows during the winter for Brushy Creek tend to be in the 20's.
