Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Arkansas is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The scenic beauty of Arkansas and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The put-in is not too far from Harrison, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're
all set. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The Pruitt to Hasty stretch of Buffalo River in Newton County is 7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater
as a class I-II section. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. When you're paddling down a Boston Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.
Briefly about the general area: Gray Bluff is an interesting thing to observe since you're here at Buffalo River; Boomer Hollow is another tremendous
site to have a look at nearby. If you want a tremendous time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Boston Mountains. Here at Buffalo River you'll in all probability meet some people from Harrison, and Flatiron Bluff is something you shouldn't miss while you're here.
This is a great river. Buffalo River ordinarily gets lots of rainfall; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain; January is when it's the driest. High temperatures at Buffalo River through the warm months are in the 80's while nighttime lows are mostly in the 60's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and overnight lows in the 20's for Buffalo River.
