The nature scenery of Arkansas and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section of Buffalo River in Newton County is 7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Arkansas you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The put-in is not too far from Harrison, there's
a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Pruitt to Hasty stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing
to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. The beautiful Boston Mountains scenery is an added bonus.
Briefly about the general area: This is a great river. A great deal of precipitation falls at Buffalo River; the wettest month of the year is commonly May, that's the one that rains the most while January
is generally the driest month. So much enjoyable stuff to do here in the Boston Mountains, too fine to be true. If you're here at Buffalo River, checking out Flatiron Bluff is a must, and the nice folks of Harrison like to hang out close by. For the duration of the summertime
months here at Buffalo River, high temperatures regularly get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's while the cold winter nights at Buffalo River are in the 20's. A cool spot to pop by next to Buffalo River is Gray Bluff; a fine place to have a look at close by is Boomer Hollow.
