The starting location is a short drive from Harrison, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The beautiful scenery of Newton/Searcy County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. The Carver to Woolum stretch of Buffalo River in Arkansas is 15.3
miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The wild scenery of the Boston Mountains is great. The campgrounds here at Buffalo
River are pretty good. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
Briefly about the general area: Copper Bluff is an interesting site to visit while at Buffalo River; a good site is Ed Clair Hollow.
During the warm days of summer at Buffalo River highs are mostly in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Buffalo River temperatures plunge to the 20's. The high level
of rainfall makes Buffalo River a quite wet spot; most of the rain falls throughout May while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Life's too short to enjoy all the fun stuff in the Boston Mountains. Clair Bluff is an out of the ordinary thing to catch a glimpse of if you're here at Buffalo River.
