The starting location is a short drive from Harrison, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The nature scenery of Arkansas and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Woolum to Tyler Bend stretch is just one of many. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This section of Buffalo River in Arkansas is
15.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter,
so go ahead and pack your camp stove. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The Boston Mountains scenery is wonderful. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the warmest time of the year at Buffalo River temperatures are generally in the 80's; throughout summer nights temperatures are in
the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's while Buffalo River overnight low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 20's. Buffalo River gets lots of water; the month with most of the rain is May; January is the month with the least moisture.
