If you're coming from Mountain Home it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Arkansas scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. The Gilbert to Maumee section is one of many paddling sections in this
river system. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Arkansas are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Whitewater paddling here in the Boston Mountains is a great experience. No matter if you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This stretch of Buffalo River in Arkansas is 11.8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camp stove. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: McKinney Hollow is a good spot to visit close by. Buffalo River is a wet place that gets much precipitation; during the month of May you get the most rain around
here; January is when it's the driest. Summertime highs at Buffalo River ordinarily tend to be in the 90's with night lows in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Buffalo River.
