The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Mountain Home, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Gilbert to Maumee section of Buffalo River in Arkansas is 11.8 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The nature scenery of Searcy County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here.
This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. There aren’t any hotels
right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. When you're paddling down a Boston Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near.

to discover. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 90's to Buffalo River. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 60's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's; throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Buffalo River temperatures plunge to the 20's.
All the water falling down from the sky makes Buffalo River a wet location; May is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of the year is January.
