The beautiful scenery of Searcy County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The Maumee to Buffalo Point stretch of Buffalo River in Searcy County is 10.9 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. The beauty of the Boston Mountains is a great plus for this river. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up
sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Arkansas is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around
here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The put-in location is a short drive from Mountain Home, as you can see on the road map further down. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. There's camping available near Buffalo River. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too.
Briefly about the general area: A good place to visit near Buffalo River is Peter Hollow. Through the warm days of summer highs here at Buffalo River reach the 90's. All
through the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 60's. Highs during the winter are commonly in the 40's with temperatures at Buffalo River dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights. All the water falling down from the sky makes Buffalo River a wet place; most of the rain falls throughout May while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
