This stretch of water is challenging. A lot of rapdids coming one after the other insures no boredom. We put in at Chester and rode it into Frog Bayou with the level at 2.9 We can hardly wait to see what it's like 3.5! Says Beth grimwood
The nature scenery of Crawford County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. This section of Clear Creek in Arkansas is 6 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations
you might end up sleeping in your car. The wild scenery of the Boston Mountains is great. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in
mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. The starting point is not too far from Fort Smith, as you can see on the road map further down. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. This is the only paddling section along Clear Creek. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Clear Creek sees pretty high levels of rain; May is the
wettest month with most rain, and the driest month is January. Throughout the summer highs here at Clear Creek get into the 90's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 60's. Highs during the winter are ordinarily in the 40's, and night lows at Clear Creek during the wintertime commonly sink into the 20's.
