Arkansas whitewater - Frog Bayou, Boston Mountains, Crawford County
Crawford
county,
Mountainburg to Lancaster Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II 13.5 miles
I don't know where you are from, but you obviously don't know the best way to run Frog Bayou. It is not by raft. An open canoe is best. Kayaks are fine. But this is not the Rocky Mountain West and rafts are too big for these Ozark great creeks like Frog Bayou. Solo or tandem open canoes rule. Says J. P. Bell
The wonderful Arkansas scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Frog Bayou will make you feel great. If you're coming from Fort Smith it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more
info on that. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the
rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The river winds through the Boston Mountains and you get great scenery. This section of Frog Bayou in Crawford County is 13.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better
reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camp stove too.
