The nature scenery of Pope County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The put-in location is a short drive from Russellville, as you can see on the road map further down. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Arkansas are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This is the only paddling section along Graves Creek. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you
make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. When you're paddling down a Boston Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery
along the way too. The Headwaters to Big Piney Creek section of Graves Creek in Arkansas is 1.9 miles long and is a class III+(IV) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch.
Briefly about the general area: You just can't picture the amount of outdoors amusing stuff the Boston Mountains has to offer. Graves Creek sees
pretty high levels of precipitation; May is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is January. You should go to Felkins Point when you're here at Graves Creek, and fine hiking is available along the Grassy Point Trail. High temperatures at Graves Creek
through the days of summer are in the 90's, and the night is quite colder of course, usually in the 60's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 40's while Graves Creek night low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 20's.
