The scenic beauty of Arkansas and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. Hart Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the to Highway 220 stretch is the only one. Great exercise and just hanging out
with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good
for a one day paddling trip. The wild scenery of the Boston Mountains is great. The starting location is a short drive from Fort Smith, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There's camping available near Hart Creek. This section of Hart Creek is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV(V) section by American Whitewater.
Briefly about the general area: A good deal of rain falls at Hart Creek; most of the rain falls through May while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Whiskey Spring; the Butterfield Hiking Trail offers hiking at its best. But wait, there's more amusing things to do in the Boston Mountains. The warmest time of the year at Hart Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 90's.
All through the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's; nighttime lows during the wintertime for Hart Creek tend to be in the 20's.
