CLASS II-III+ 4 miles
The starting point is not too far from Harrison, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Haw Creek in Johnson County is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III+ section by American Whitewater. This is the only paddling stretch along Haw Creek. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The natural beauty of Johnson County
and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The wild scenery of the Boston Mountains is great. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds
nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that rivers here are less demanding.
Briefly about the general area: All through the summer months, highs generally are in the 90's at Haw Creek. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 60's. During the wintertime this place gets
highs in the 40's with temperatures at Haw Creek dipping down into the 20's through winter nights. Haw Creek ordinarily gets lots of precipitation; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Bowman
