The wonderful Arkansas scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. The Highway 16 to Arkansas 59 section of Illinois River in Benton County is 5.1 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The beauty of the Ozarks is a great plus for this river. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Highway 16 to Arkansas 59 stretch is just one of many. |

The campgrounds here at Illinois River are pretty good. If you're coming from Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there
| are lots of good spots for that around here. There are many good hotels to choose from, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Arkansas tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy.
