Arkansas whitewater - Illinois River, Ozarks, Benton County Benton county, Highway 16 to Arkansas 59 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     5.1 miles   This section of Illinois River is 5.1 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Arkansas are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The put-in is not too far from Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers, as you can see on the road map further down. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The beauty of the     Ozarks is a great plus for this river. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The nature scenery of Benton County and the water flowing gracefully down Illinois River make the trip here worthwhile. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Illinois River during the summertime months are in the 90's while overnight lows are ordinarily in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Illinois River dipping down into the 20's during winter   nights. Illinois River is a relatively wet place generally with a large amount of rain; September is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month of the year is January.
