The wonderful Arkansas scenery and the cool fresh water beats anything. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Arkansas is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The Bayou Bluff to Hector stretch of Illinois Bayou in Arkansas is 8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The wild scenery of the Boston Mountains is great. You might be into whitewater
rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The campgrounds here at Illinois Bayou are pretty good. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from
the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. Briefly about the general area: Near Illinois Bayou you find Mathis Hollow which is a good spot to stop at. The high level of rain makes Illinois Bayou a reasonably wet site; most of the rain falls throughout May while
January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. At Illinois Bayou throughout the summertime months highs are in the 90's with overnight lows in the 60's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Illinois Bayou temperatures plunge to the 20's.
