The Hector to Scottsville stretch of Illinois Bayou in Pope County is 10 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Russellville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The river winds through the Boston Mountains and you get great scenery. Since you're on this
site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive
a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The natural beauty of Arkansas and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. The average Arkansas whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Hector to Scottsville stretch is just one of them.

the general area: Epson Hollow is a splendid location to go to close by. All the water falling down from the sky makes Illinois Bayou a wet location; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain; January on the other hand is the driest. During the warmest
time of the year, highs generally are in the 90's at Illinois Bayou, and the nighttime is somewhat chillier of course, typically in the 60's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's; overnight lows during the winter for Illinois Bayou tend to be in the 20's.
