the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. The campgrounds here
| at Illinois Bayou are pretty good. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. Whitewater paddling here in the Boston Mountains is a great experience.

During the summertime at Illinois Bayou highs are mostly in the 90's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Illinois Bayou.
