The CR1000 to FS181 stretch of Illinois Bayou - North Fork in Arkansas is 14 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Arkansas you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The starting point is not too far from Russellville, as you can see on the road map further down. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. There aren’t
any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good
spots. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The beauty of the Boston Mountains is a great plus for this river. The scenic beauty of Pope County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile.
