If you're coming from Russellville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The beautiful Boston Mountains scenery is an added bonus. If you're a camper you can
camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. This stretch of Illinois Bayou - North Fork in Pope County is 14 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater.
You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The nature scenery of Arkansas and the water flowing gracefully down Illinois Bayou - North Fork are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
