The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Arkansas are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The beautiful scenery of Arkansas and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far
and near. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large
number of good spots. The CR1000 to FS181 section of Illinois Bayou - North Fork in Arkansas is 14 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Russellville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The beautiful Boston Mountains scenery is an added bonus. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well.
