Arkansas whitewater - Left Hand Prong, Boston Mountains, Pope County Pope county, Headwaters to Victor Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-IV     8.5 miles   If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Arkansas you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The Headwaters to Victor Road stretch of Left Hand Prong is 8.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV section. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. If you're coming from Harrison it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location,     please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. The beautiful Boston Mountains scenery is an added bonus. The nature scenery of Pope County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Left Hand Prong doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Headwaters to Victor Road stretch is the only one. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: A large amount of rain falls at Left Hand Prong; through May this area sees the most rain, and January is the month   with the least moisture. Have a magnificent hiking adventure along the Boyd Trail, and going for a hike along the Sulphur Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. All the outdoors amusing things in the Boston Mountains will keep you coming back many times. At Left Hand Prong through the summer highs are in the 90's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Left Hand Prong temperatures fall to the 20's.
