The Lydalusk to Shirley stretch of Little Red River - Middle Fork is 22 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The average Arkansas whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure
to keep you coming back for more. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Lydalusk to Shirley section is one of them. Whitewater paddling here in the Boston Mountains is a great experience. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. The wonderful Searcy Van Buren Stone County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Little Red River - Middle Fork are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
