The scenic beauty of Stone County and the cool fresh water beats anything. If you're coming from Mountain Home it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The Barkshed to Allison section of North Sylamore Creek in Stone County is 12.5 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The Barkshed to Allison section is the only paddling section along North Sylamore Creek. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. There
aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. If you're a camper you
can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. When you're paddling down a Boston Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: North Sylamore Creek is a rather wet
place generally with lots of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is mostly May, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month of the year is January. Branscum Spring is an inspiring location to stop by during your stay, and if you desire a little side visit, try
Caney Hollow. These mountains rock, just look at all the entertaining stuff to do in the Boston Mountains. At North Sylamore Creek through the long summer days highs are in the 90's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 60's. All through the winter highs are in the 40's; during the dark hours in the winter at North Sylamore Creek temperatures dip to the 20's.
