  The scenic beauty of Arkansas and the cool fresh water beats anything. The Remmel Dam to I-30 at Malvern stretch of Ouachita River in Hot Spring County is 6 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. There's camping available near Ouachita River. Whitewater paddling here in the
    Ouachita Mountains is a great experience. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Hot Springs, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. If
you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Arkansas you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too.

The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 90's to Ouachita River; through summer nights temperatures are in the 70's. Highs
 
during the wintertime are ordinarily in the 50's, and night lows at Ouachita River throughout the wintertime frequently plunge into the 20's. A large amount of rain falls at Ouachita River; through March this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is January.
