The beautiful scenery of Arkansas and the water flowing gracefully down Salado Creek will make you feel great. The average Arkansas whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one,
and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This section of Salado Creek is 10 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II(III)
section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. The beauty of the Boston Mountains is a great plus for this river. The starting location is a short drive from Batesville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are no other stretches to paddle along Salado Creek than the Camp Tahkotah to US 167 stretch.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime brings highs in the 90's to Salado Creek, and the overnight is quite chillier of course, ordinarily
in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Salado Creek fall into the 20's. Salado Creek is a relatively wet place generally with a great deal of precipitation; during the month of March you get the most rain around here; the driest of the months is January.
