The Iron Springs to Buffalo Gap Road stretch of Saline River - Middle Fork in Arkansas is 0.9 miles long and it is classified as a class II(III) section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Hot Springs it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a
bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The Ouachita Mountains scenery is wonderful. This is an extremely short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times.
There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Iron Springs to Buffalo Gap Road section is one of them. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The wonderful Arkansas scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
