Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The wonderful Newton County scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The campgrounds here at Spirits Creek are pretty good. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Spirits Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the County
Road 76 to County Road 2434 section is the only one. This stretch of Spirits Creek in Arkansas is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. The beauty of the Boston Mountains is a great plus for this river. This section is long enough to enjoy
a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more.

the most, and the driest month is January. Deep Hollow is a great place to explore, and the Shores Lake Water Rock Spur offers hiking at its best.
