If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The Sunol to Niles Junction Close to Fremont section of Alameda Creek in Alameda County is 4.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far     and near. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The starting location is a reasonable drive from San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are no other stretches to paddle along Alameda Creek than the Sunol to Niles Junction Close to Fremont stretch. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. Briefly about the general area: Alameda Creek is a good location of typical precipitation; January is the month that gets the most rain; July on the other hand is the driest. Stonybrook   Canyon is a wonderful place to take a look at next to Alameda Creek. At Alameda Creek during the summer highs are in the 70's. Summer night lows plunge down to the 50's. During the winter the highs are generally in the 50's while the cold winter nights at Alameda Creek are in the 40's.
