The wonderful Placer County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down American River - Middle Fork will make you feel great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This section of American River - Middle Fork in Placer County is 2.1 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. When you're paddling down a Northern Sierra Nevada river like this one you always get great
scenery along the way too. The put-in location is a short drive from Truckee-Grass Valley, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The Mosquito Ridge Road to confluence with Middle Fork stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
