This section of American River - Middle Fork in Placer County is 2.1 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Truckee-Grass Valley, as you can see on the road map further down. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The
nature scenery of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you
want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Mosquito Ridge Road to confluence with Middle Fork stretch is just one of many. The Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is a bit of a short stretch so no need to bring snacks.

to the 60's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 50's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to American River - Middle Fork. American River - Middle Fork is right by the Bake Oven Trail, and Skunk Canyon is another great place to visit close by.
