  The Euchre Bar to Colfax-Iowa Hill Road stretch of American River - North Fork in Placer County is 14.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. The scenic beauty of Placer County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You can enjoy this section more if you take
    your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Euchre Bar to Colfax-Iowa Hill Road stretch is just one of them. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number
of good spots. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The beauty of the Northern Sierra Nevada is a great plus for this river. The put-in is not too far from Truckee-Grass Valley, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere.

High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 40's; after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at American River - North Fork descend into the 20's. The high level of precipitation makes American River - North Fork a quite wet location; the month of January is the wettest with most of the rain, and July is the month with the least moisture.
Having a nice time in the Northern Sierra Nevada is painless. Near American River - North Fork you come across Sheldon Ravine which is a great place to pop by, and there's nice hiking along the Green Valley Trail.
