  The Colfax-Foresthill Road Bridge to Ponderosa Way Bridge section of American River - North Fork in Placer County is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. If you're coming from Truckee-Grass Valley it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're
    whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. The nature scenery of California and the
sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Colfax-Foresthill Road Bridge to Ponderosa Way Bridge section is just one of them. The Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
