The starting location is a reasonable drive from Sacramento—Arden-Arcade—Roseville, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of American River - North Fork is 3 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The beautiful scenery of California and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Since you're on this
site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you
came. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. The campgrounds here at American River - North Fork are pretty good. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: At American River - North Fork during the summertime highs are in the 80's, and the overnight is a little colder of course, ordinarily in the 50's. The wintertime brings
highs down to the 40's while American River - North Fork night low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 20's. American River - North Fork is a wet site that gets a large amount of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is January, and July on the other hand is the driest.
