The natural beauty of El Dorado County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. This section of American River - South Fork is 7 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you've been     whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The wild scenery of the Northern Sierra Nevada is great. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. No shortage of good hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: American River - South Fork is a wet place that gets lots of rain; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily January, that's the one that rains the most, and July is the month with the least moisture. Summertime at American River - South Fork comes   with high temperatures in the 90's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 60's.
