The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The beautiful scenery of El Dorado County and the water flowing gracefully down American River - South Fork are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Route 193 to
Folsom Lake section is just one of them. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. The Route 193 to Folsom Lake stretch of
American River - South Fork in California is 20.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. The Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
